Inspired by a French word Flâneurie which refers to the act of strolling around on the crowded streets of Paris in 19th century, the South Korean artist Kim Sang Min presents such an idea through Digital Flâneurie, hee latest video art and photography exhibition. Centuries ago the middle class and wealthy people were fond of roaming the streets, discovering, observing and looking for the excitement from those windows heavily and luxuriously decorated to draw attention along the way. Today with the help of smart phones, the roaming or Flâneurie continues; however, in the virtual world.
“As we wander about, physically or virtually, we run into so many different images and through this, our thoughts start to bloom. We can sometimes look into one’s or other’s experience, dream, desire, and etc. Or we can reflect our past, present, or the future. It may sometimes be positive or otherwise... Whatever the thoughts may be, ‘Digital Flâneurie’ invites you to wander around, observe and speculate.”
