Field of Happiness is a series of paintings presenting the simple lifestyle of people living in the Isan region of Thailand. These people's lives depend on the change of seasons where local agriculturalists sow their lands to cultivate rice during the rainy season. Once harvest time is over, they earn a living by doing other jobs such as animal husbandry or vegetable farming. The crops are also for domestic use and sharing in their close-knit community. They lead their life happily without being overly ambitious, which is the way of life passed on from one generation after another for a very long time.
Boonnum Sasood's dotted art has been influenced by Pointillism, a practice widely used in France during the Neo-impressionism movement around the end of the 19th century. His prominent style shows detailed dots formed into human figures, animals, objects, etc. When incorporating the story of a serene lifestyle in the upcountry, away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, his creations have become pure and honest contemporary art sought after by Thai and international art collectors.
