Jakkee Kongkaew presents his latest printmaking exhibition The Icon showing the faces of influential people around the globe. Religious and spiritual leaders, famous artists and scholars, politics and governance experts, fighters for freedom, and musicians are the subjects of his new creation. Pictures of Dalai Lama, Buddhadasa, Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi, Professor Silpa Bhirasri, etc. are inscribed onto wood, transferring and displaying each person's personality, notions, and practices as well as the artist's feelings toward them.
Jakkee Kongkaew is a printer who has worked in the woodcut discipline for a long period of time. He was also close to his teacher and 1998 National Artist in visual art (printmaking), Professor Emeritus Prayat Pongdam. Jakkee creates his woodblock by using several techniques throughout the process of his carving, weaving various lines to form light and shadows resulting in a beautiful reproduction of realistic volumes and textures. His works of art have won several awards at national art contests. He has also exhibited his work in several solo and group exhibitions.
